  1. Thursday Mind Meet Program
  2. Department of Social Work, Central University of Jammu Hosts Transformative Thursday Mind Meet Program on Mental Health on October 26, 2023: Under the esteemed patronage of the Central University of Jammu, the department of social work organized an insightful program titled "Thursday Mind Meet" on October 26, 2023, at 3:00 pm. “Transitioning of mental discourse from individual concern to public health concern”. The session was formally introduced by Dr. Nancy Mengi, the Head of the department of social work where Dr. Aswini Kumar Nanda, HOD of the Department of Economics, assumed the role of the session's chairperson, ensuring a smooth flow of discussions. The panel consisted of esteemed speakers who shared their expertise on various facets of mental health: Dr. Ankita Choudhary, a prominent Psychologist from the Department of Paediatrics, GMC, Doda, delivered a comprehensive talk on "Overview of mental health from a global context with a focus on human rights." Miss Sonakshi Gupta, a dedicated P.G. student from the Department of Social Work, addressed the audience on "Mental health challenges in a global and Indian context". Mr. Joji Abraham, a research scholar from the department of social work, shared an enlightening presentation on "Mental health as a public health concern: scope and initiatives."

  3. Regional consultation on diversity of Indian food systems: contemporary issues and challenges
  4. On the occasion of World food day, department of social work, central university of Jammu organised a regional consultation on theme “Regional consultation on diversity of Indian food systems: contemporary issues and challenges”. The conveners of the consultation are Dr. Ranvir singh and Dr. Bhat Iqbal. The consultation was formally started by welcome address by Dr. Nancy Mengi. The consultation had three sessions capturing the diversity knowledge scapes by experts from disciplines of ayurveda, botany, Agriculture, tribal culture, regional organisations and social work. First session was based on food, Agrobiodiversity and traditional knowledge; understanding the triad. The session had Dr. Sanjeev kumar from SKUAST, Jammu, Dr. Vasanta kohli Sr, dietician from, Jammu and Ranjoy Gupta, research scholar from department of social work, central university of Jammu as panelists. . The session was moderated by research scholar, Jaspreet singh. Second session was based on food, culture and ethnobotanical diversity; reflections from the field which had Dr Samantha from department of botany, Central University of Jammu, Javiad rahi, tribal researcher and social activist and professor Hariramamurthi from Bengaluru as panelists. This session was moderated by research scholar, suhel. The third session was based on insights on food: health, policy and market interlinkages. The session had Dr, Vikas Bajpai from centre of social medicine, CSMCH, JNU and Dr. Vikas Gupta from Jammu institute of ayurveda and research as panel members. The session was moderated by research scholar Joji Abraham.

  5. Creating Hope through Action
  6. On September 11th,2023, a half-day awareness campaign was held in observance of World Suicide Prevention Day. The theme of the programme was "Creating Hope through Action." The program included a seminar session by Mr. Remesh Krishnan, Psychiatric Social Worker, followed by a panel discussion by faculty members chaired by Dr. Nancy Mengi, HOD Social Work. An Awareness rally and Candlelight vigil were also carried out as part of the programme.

  7. Three day Research Methodology workshop
  8. Department of social work under the patronage of vice chancellor organized a Three day Research Methodology workshop. Invited speakers included Dr Anil Kumar Tiwari from Department of Philosophy and Culture, SMVDU, Prof. Anil Gupta from The School of Business Studies, University of Jammu, Dr Hema Gandotra from Department of Sociology, University of Jammu. Dr Amit Verma from Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Manipal University who delivered lecture on systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis and Dr Bharti Gupta from department of Travel and Tourism Management, Central University of Jammu who delivered lecture on ethics in research and hands on training session on Nvivo software. Prof Manish Sharma from Department of Statistics and Computer Science, SKUAST who spoke on various statistical tests and analysis techniques.
