HoD's Message

Greetings to all,

Welcome to the Department of Mass Communication and New Media (MCNM)! The Department functions under the School of Knowledge Management, Information and Media Studies at the Central University of Jammu (CUJ). I’m excited to have recently joined MCNM as Associate Professor and Head and look forward contributing to its growth and advancement in becoming a centre of excellence in the field of media and communication training and research. At MCNM, our vision is to cultivate future leaders, creative thinkers, and effective communicators who can make a positive impact on society through various media platforms. Our mission is to provide our students with a comprehensive and engaging learning experience that combines theory and practice, equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the ever-evolving field of mass communication. Our MA (Mass Communication and New Media) degree programme is designed to provide learners with a deep understanding of the intricacies of media, communication theories, journalism, digital media, public relations, and more. Through a combination of engaging lectures, hands-on workshops, real-world projects, and industry interactions, students will gain practical insights into the world of media and communication. Our dedicated and experienced faculty members bring in a wide range of expertise and specialisations. At MCNM, we follow a student centric approach of teaching. We provide our students an excellent learning environment where they 1) explore various forms of media, from traditional to digital platforms, 2) develop strong storytelling and content creation skills, 3) learn about media ethics, cultural sensitivity, and responsible communication, 4) gain practical experience through projects, internships and collaborations with media organizations, and 5) develop critical thinking abilities to create and analyse media messages effectively. This enables our students not only to enhance their employability, but also to inculcate a sense of innovation and entrepreneurship. We are keenly working on developing appropriate mechanisms to support, nurture and incubate their innovative ideas into successful media ventures and startups. Our doctoral programme promotes research on a variety of cutting-edge topics having immediate academic, industrial, and societal implications. I invite you to join MCNM to explore the world of media and communication and advance your career!
