Event: ADMINISTRATIVE REFORMS IN INDIA

A New India@75 needs a governance model that brings together innovation, technology, enterprise and efficient management with a clean and fair public administration. Since independence, the Union Government has constituted more than 50 commissions and committees to look into administrative and civil service reforms. Civil Service Reforms in India can be broadly classified into the 1950-1990 period when Civil Service was committed to implement the programs of developmental governance, the post liberalization era from 1990-2000 when the government attempted to unshackle the economy from bureaucratic controls and the 2000-2014 period when regulatory models of administration were introduced. The period 2014-2021 witnessed the digital transformation in India’s governance models, technology adoption in welfare state programs and massive scaling up of flagship programs.
