The Department of Environmental Sciences (EVS), established in 2012, under the school of Life Sciences at Central University of Jammu. Department is offering Master’s programme and Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences. In Master’s and Ph.D programme NEP based course curriculum has been introduced core, elective, skill based and personality development based courses. Which focus on continuous assessments procedure is fallowed for Student’s evaluation. The department has 20 scholars who are pursuing their doctoral degree.
The Department is committed to provide quality education in Environmental Sciences, which has assumed significance in view of increasing development-sustainability conflicts, and the brut of which is visible in all the sphere of plant Earth. . The Department is dedicated to empower its students for global competition in job market and research innovations through constant review, revision and updating of the course curriculum to keep pace with the advances made in the discipline, emerging areas of research and development and the new technologies to understand and ameliorate environmental problems. The research students have been given choice to specialize in Renewable Energy Options, Water Quality Resource Treatment Options, Natural Resource Management, Green Technologies, Atmospheric Sciences, Environmental Geosciences, Solid Waste Management and disaster management and mitigation. The teaching pedagogy is learner-oriented than the conventional classroom teaching. The Department is laying stress on hands-on training of the students in the laboratory and in the field according to futuristic needs. The Department envisaging to achieve all such objectives in Letter and Spirit.
The Department of Environmental Sciences, with its focus on Natural Resource Management, Renewable Energy, Biodiversity and its Conservation, Rock-Water Interactions, Bio-Energy, Atmospheric Science, earth Sciences and Remote Sensing and GIS, has a very strong perception of developing Capacity of knowledge, skill and technologies to understand the changing environment and associated challenges like climate change, over- and misuse of natural resources, increasing pollution levels, etc. This is aimed at producing skilled professionals in the discipline who are capable of stepping in academics, research and industry. The Department intends to lead environmental sciences and research with a wish to create, integrate and transform fundamental understanding of environmental sciences and use it to help providing safe and clean energy, air, water, and land.
