The Department of Mathematics came into existence in 2011 along with the inception of the Central University of Jammu and is the first DST-FIST sponsored department in the University. Presently, the Department has six dynamic members and the department is running two programs (Master Degree Programme in Mathematics and Ph.D. in Mathematics), and from this year the department is going to start a 5-Year Integrated Program. The department offers specialization in diverse fields such as Commutative Algebra, Complex Analysis, Functional Analysis, Nonlinear Dynamical Systems, Operator Theory, Operation Research etc. The faculty members of the department did various Research Projects funded by different sponsoring agencies like NBHM, Department of Atomic Energy, DST(SERB) and UGC etc.
To Contribute to India and the world through excellence in mathematics education and research , to serve as a valuable resource for research in other sciences, engineering and for industry and society , to generate new knowledge by engaging in cutting egde research and to promote mathematical growth by offering state-of-the -art postgraduate and doctoral programmes.
The main objective of the department is to produce mathematics who are able to bring mathematical methods and applications in areas previously considered outside of mathematics such as physical sciences, social science, life sciences, engineering and technology industry and some public organizations.
